Juneteenth is about Celiberation

A Call for Joy and Resistance

I have been really grateful to see so many people celebrating Juneteenth. However, as the holiday becomes more popular, I worry that some of the heart of its message is being forgotten. In this Juneteenth reflection, I share both on the origins on the holiday, the core themes that I think we need to hold and how we make this not just a celebration in the midst of backsliding times. I think that Black Americans have been groundbreaking in our ability to hold our joy and our pain in tension. We have cultivated an ability to love this country and demand that it live up to the fullness of its potential. So my call particularly on this Juneteenth is for a Spirit of Ce-liberation.

If you are wondering why the heck I am wearing angel wings, I also share how I am holding joy and resistance in this Juneteenth. I hope you will enjoy my act of ce-liberation and think about your own ways to resist with joy in this season.
